6 Ways to Break Free When You're Feeling Stuck

Feeling stuck in your life is one of the most frustrating situations to be in. You know you're not where you want to be, but you feel powerless to change it. Any attempt at change feels like a struggle and you don't know where to start, or what steps to take. Feeling stuck in a routine, a pattern, or a situation can make you start to question everything—your purpose, your worth, your power. Questioning yourself brings with it an onslaught of negative thoughts that lead you down a dark hole of self-doubt. 

Stop this spiral in its tracks and break free. Here's how:

Tell yourself a new story.

When you feel stuck and self-doubt starts to creep in, it is so important to change the story that you tell yourself from one of a powerless victim to one of a powerful co-creator with the Universe. You are divine, you were created for a reason, the Universe needs your unique energy. Take a deep breath, walk with your head up and heart open. As a radiant being of light and love you glow beautifully, confidently, and free. Believe in yourself, believe in your power, this is crucial to living an amazing life.

Clear up your fear around change.

If you're feeling stuck, you probably have a healthy craving for change. But ask yourself, “Am I really ready for change? Is there any part of me that's holding onto the way things are because I'm afraid of what change might bring?” Really dig deep here and see if there are any ways you may be holding back. Change can be scary and we actually spend a lot of time trying to hold onto what we have and how our life is now. Reframe the way you view change and welcome it into your life with confidence and an open heart by reciting the following mantra: "I am ready to live my life in new ways."

Call on the transformational energy of the Universe.

Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha is a very powerful mantra that calls on Ganesha—the elephant deity who is the remover of obstacles and of new beginnings. Reciting this mantra calls on the manifesting energy of the Universe to come into your life and create transformation and change while allowing you to move past obstacles in your life. Recite this mantra aloud during meditation or in your head throughout the day to invite transformational energy into your life.

Focus on what's going right.

When you're feeling stuck there's a tendency to have a narrow focus on what needs to change. Being so focused on where you think you should be by now can, in turn, make you miss all the great things you already have in your life. 

Focus on the things that are going right in your life right now, no matter how small—you had a great yoga class, you were able to meet up with a friend for dinner, the sun was shining today. Where you focus your attention is where your energy flows and what you get more of. Focus more on what's going right and more of that will come into your life.

Try something new.

It could be anything, no matter how small. Trying something new creates an energetic shift in your life and breaks through stagnation to start a pattern of change and growth. Have you ever run into someone you haven't seen in a month, or maybe even a year, they ask you what's new, and you can't think of a single thing? Read a book that shifts your perspective on life, read it in a park you've never been to, try out a rock climbing wall or take an aerial yoga class—the list is endless. 

Let go of control.

It may seem counterintuitive, but trying to keep tight control over your life can really be what's keeping you stuck. The Universe has a plan for your life and it will naturally unfold if you trust in the loving energy that's fully supporting you and leading you where you need to go. Maybe you want to become unstuck, but only if change comes in the form that you want it to. You want change in your life but only if it makes your life look the way you want it to. 

Surrender, let go of control and of how you think your life should be. Rather than asking for what you think you need, repeat this mantra: "Universe, show me where to go and what to do." Make space for the Universe to present you with opportunities, then pay attention and be open to whatever comes your way.
