You’re invited to join Yoga Alliance certified teachers Brittany Policastro and Maura Manzo for a Teacher Training unlike any Philadelphia has ever seen. In addition to a thorough training in the art of alignment, adjustments, pranayama, and learning how to teach a fluid and inspiring class, the Beyond Asana training also offers extensive time exploring personal growth work, creating a sustainable yoga business and living a yoga lifestyle that is congruent and authentic with your teachings. Unique to this training is a fundraising project that will submerge you deep into the heart of service. Every student who participates will be asked to raise $5,000 for our partner organization, buildOn, a non-profit that works in some of the most isolated and poverty stricken regions in the world, empowering international communities to overcome their challenges by opening the door to education.
With their extensive fundraising experience, Maura and Brittany will support and motivate you to connect with your community and engage in ways unimaginable. Upon raising the money, the group will travel to a small group in Nepal where we will break ground to build a school funded by our efforts. This powerful, in-depth 10-month immersion offers an amazing opportunity for growth. Coupled with a fundraising project and service trip, this potential becomes tremendous. There is no doubt your life will change.
Program will meet monthly. Full attendance and participation is required to complete certification requirements. You will also be asked to fundraise $5,000.

Raise $5,000 and Travel to Nepal to help Build a School!
At Beyond Asana we believe that the experience of engaging in a project of service can be life changing. Both Maura and Brittany have extensive experience in fundraising and humanitarian travel. These experiences have transformed their lives and offered insight into their purpose on this planet. Every student that participates in this 200 hour training will automatically be involved in this service project with buildOn.
buildOn’s Global School Construction Program provides rural communities in developing nations across the globe with access to education. They break ground on a new school every six days with the help of U.S. afterschool program members, donors and parents who have provided over 700,000 volunteer work days to build schools for their children. Through a methodology that puts gender equality at the forefront and villagers in control, they provide not only schools, but the knowledge and the power to change entire communities.
For the 2012 teacher training, students will be raising funds to build a school in Nepal. With the support and guidance of Brittany and Maura, each participant will raise $5,000 for the project and will have the duration of the teacher training to do so. Upon completion of the training our group will travel to Nepal to help break ground on the school we raised the funds for.
Each weekend time will be spent on your fundraising efforts, discussing your progress, answering any questions and supporting you in this process. We will create a steady foundation within the training to help keep your efforts sustainable and focused in order to achieve the goal of raising the $5,000. Support will also be provided by the experienced staff at buildOn.
The money you raise goes ENTIRELY to this project. Approximately $3,000 will go directly to the help build the school and the other $2,000 will pay for your flight and accommodations while in Nepal. Participants will be paired up and living with a host family for the duration of your 10 day stay. Every day there will be time to practice yoga, work in the village and process the experience. All meals and activities are included. The purpose of this trip is to allow you to connect with the product of your fundraising efforts, to experience life in a poverty stricken area and to be a part of creating sustainable education for the inhabitants of this land. As a result you will strengthen your interpersonal and communication skills, become engaged in a project that connects local and global communities and embark on a once and a lifetime travel experience.
Brittany was teaching her first yoga class less than a year after she put her feet on her first yoga mat. This was around the same time she chose to pursue writing instead of law school. With over 8 years and 6,000 hours of teaching experience Brittany’s classes have evolved over the years just as she has. Her style is influenced by her 300 hours of training in Anusara, practice of Vinyasa and Restorative yoga, and deep study in India. Her classes offer a unique blend of clear alignment, slow and creative flow, focused breath play and inspiring perspective. Her style is loving while firm, fun while spiritual, and challenging while nurturing. In addition to her adult yoga certification Brittany also has seven years experience teaching Prenatal Yoga as well as Post Partum Yoga and teaching children of all ages. She has taught yoga at resorts in Mexico and Jamaica with NRG2go, led an alignment and adjustment training in India and has taught yoga to children in Cambodia, Brazil, Tanzania and India. Drawing from her own experience with yoga and humanitarian travel, she will guide you through a healing practice that will remind you of your unlimited potential and the joy that comes when we understand how precious and powerful we truly are.
Maura Manzo began to practice yoga to “learn to breathe” after a fire destroyed her home in 2006 and has been in love ever since. She contributes her training as a competitive gymnast in her early years and year round athleticism thereafter to her immediate physical attraction to yoga but she quickly recognized the significance of the connection of breath to mind, body and spirit. Her classes are challenging, creative and inspiring (and always have a good playlist!)
In 2006, Maura graduated from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City and quickly became a practicing health coach, helping others learn to eat, feel and live better. At the same time, she also began managing the award-winning RYAH Yoga and Health in Conshohocken. A few years later she received her 200 hr Vinyasa Yoga Certification through her training with Jennifer Schelter (Founder, Yoga Schelter) and Phyllis Bookspan (Founder, RYAH Yoga and Health). In 2010, Maura founded the Local for Global Project and raised $20,000 in 2010 for HIV/AIDS programs in South Africa as part of her going work with Off the Mat, Into the World. She has trained extensively with OTM founders Seane Corn, Hala Khouri and Suzanne Sterling, including the completion of two week-long leadership intensives and service work in South Africa. Like Brittany, this work has changed her life and helped her become clear about her purpose and her path. The unique combination of her expertise in health coaching, leadership training and yoga enables Maura to provide an integrative and comprehensive approach to wellness.
