Bindu: A dimension-less source-point for manifestation

Class Descriptions

Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa Flow is a flowing series of postures that move at a more moderate tempo.  Classes begin with warm up movements and breath awareness to prepare you for the heart of each class, a sequence of postures that stretch, strengthen, and balance your body.  Levels 1/2 beginner to intermediate.  Levels 2/3 intermediate to advanced.

Prana Flow
Prana Flow is an energetic, creative, full-spectrum approach to embodying the flow of yoga cultivated by Shiva Rea and the Global Vinyasa Collective of Teachers. Students of all levels are empowered to experience prana – the universal source of breath, life-energy and conscious intelligence – as the navigating source of yoga practice and vital living. Practitioners learn classical and innovative approaches to vinyasa yoga and the state of flow drawn from Krishnamacharya’s teachings, Tantra, Ayurveda, Bhakti, Somatics and Shiva’s teaching experience from the last fifteen years.

Restorative Yoga
This gentle style of yoga uses soothing and well-supported poses to provide us the opportunity to linger quietly for a few moments and savor the peace within us. Through forward bends (to release the low back and quiet the mind), back bends (to energize you, to open the chest and stimulate your spine), twists (to wring out the internal organs, freeing up stagnant energy), inversions (to balance your hormone and lymphatic systems), and hip openers (to improve the way you walk, sit, stand, etc.), you will start to release blockages, both muscular and energetic, while your nervous system gets a bubble bath. This class is open to all levels, including beginner’s.

Anusara Yoga
Anusara means “flowing with Grace.” A heart-oriented and spiritually inspiring style of yoga, Anusara is grounded in the Universal Principles of Alignment for both the inner and the outer body. It is a uniquely integrated style of hatha yoga in which the artistic glory of the human heart blends magically with the scientific principles of biomechanics. Through vigorous poses, specific alignment, keen self awareness, and attention to energy, Anusara students will find themselves tapped into a river of Grace. All levels welcome.

Ashtanga Vinyasa
A dynamic and invigorating yoga, this class honors the system of yoga by Sri K.Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. This method of yoga involves synchronizing the breath with an organically progressive series of postures, know as asanas, which allow the body to produce an intense internal hear and, in turn, produce detoxifying sweat. Once will find improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind with regular practice.

Falun Dafa
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong is a traditional Chinese self-cultivation practice that improves mental and physical wellness through a series of easy to learn exercises, meditation and development of one’s Heart/ Mind Nature (Xinxing). The spiritual practice is based on the universal principals of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. Cultivation” means continuously striving to better harmonize oneself with these universal principles. “Practice” refers to the exercises – five sets of easy-to-learn gentle movements and meditation. Cultivating oneself is essential; practicing the exercises supplements the process. Following the spiritual principles, practitioners of Falun Dafa are able to reach very high spiritual realms, enlightening to the true meanings of life, and finding their original kind selves.

Hatha
Open to all levels, this gentle class focuses on an exploration of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to breathing, alignment and mindfulness. Therapeutic in nature, you will learn techniques to help you gain flexibility, while immersing yourself in a relaxing class that moves at a perfectly slower pace – allowing ample time to enjoy each pose. Expect lots of deep stretching & lingering in floor poses. Meditation and relaxation techniques will also be introduced, perfect for stress relief and overall well being.

Jivamukti
Jivamukti Yoga is one of nine internationally recognized styles of Hatha Yoga. The name Jivamukti means “liberation while living.” This method of yoga was created by David Life and Sharon Gannon in 1986. They named this yoga practice “Jivamukti” because they wanted the student to be reminded of the ultimate aim of the practice: spiritual enlightenment and awareness. Jivamukti is a vigorously physical and intellectually stimulating practice combined with an equally strong foundation in the ancient spiritual traditions of Yoga.

Prenatal
Pregnancy is a special time to appreciate the beauty of life, and a yoga practice is the perfect expression of that gratitude. This class will empower and prepare you physically, mentally, and emotionally for the process of childbirth, providing a time and space to quiet the mind and connect with your body and growing baby. We will focus on breath awareness during a rhythmic flow of dynamic and restorative postures, while honoring the changing needs of pregnancy through modifications and instruction on proper anatomical alignment. Our prenatal classes provide a safe, supportive environment where we use the power of the breath to transform the discomforts of pregnancy, general stress and fear associated with childbirth into strength, peace of mind and joyful surrender.

Kripalu Flow
A connected rhythmic practice focusing on inquiry of body, breath, heart, and expression. Explore playful warming movements, breathwork techniques, heated postures, and sequenced integration as you hone your ability to observe, feel, and listen to your pracitce. Cultivate empowerment, respond to life’s natural waves with greater skillfulness and ease, and receive the majesty of all that is.

Testimonials

I can’t say enough about this place! I’ve lived in North San Diego County for 37 years (before there were any yoga studios) and over that time I’ve practiced many forms of yoga with various teachers… sometimes getting confused with so many choices… As soon as I stepped into this space I felt right at home. The atmosphere was very inviting and non-pretentious and was immediately relaxing and comfortable to be in. This place resonates from Katie, the owner…  her enthusiasm and humor along with compassion and her deep understanding of yoga are truly uplifting and inspiring. This place is a gift to our community! – John M

I discovered BINDU YOGA STUDIO when I came in with a friend. I liked the studio I was going to and had no intention of changing, but once I entered the charming and welcoming Bindu studio I felt I was part of something.  The people in the classes are warm and friendly, and the instructors are open, knowledgeable and completely giving of their time and space. There’s a sense of community and sharing that feels good for my body, my mind, and my spirit. – Sara S

16 months ago I decided to dedicate my mind and body and soul to the practice yoga. It was the very best decision I could have made for myself and my spirituality. Practicing yoga religiously has given me the utmost peace and serenity I have ever experienced in my entire life not to mention how it has totally changed my body as well. I look forward to the daily serene atmosphere at BINDU YOGA STUDIO as well as the teachings of all the instructors. They are all qualified yoga instructors and it is a pleasure and honor to practice with each and every one of them.”
