Who is Gaia?
Gaia, also spelled Gaea, was the personification of the Earth, and one of the Grecian primordial deities. Born out of Chaos, Gaia became one of the first Immortals, and the foundation of all the Immortal and mortal generations to follow. Gaia was the great mother of all: the primal Greek Mother Goddess; creator and giver of birth to the Earth and all the Universe; the heavenly gods, the Titans, and the Giants were born to her. The gods reigning over their classical pantheon were born from her union with Uranus (the sky), while the sea-gods were born from her union with Pontus(the sea). (wiki)
Gaia, (gay-ə or gah-yə) from Ancient Greek Γαῖα, a poetical form of Γῆ Gē, Ge, "land" or "earth".
Who Worships the Goddess:
While the texts on Gaia come from ancient Greek mythology, she is one of few goddesses, or gods, that remain popular today. Many "religions" and theories still practiced in present times are based solely aroung her, including the Gaia hypothesis and other earth religions. So, the first Greek god was actually a goddess.
Believers in Gaia, or ‘Gaians’ as they often refer to themselves, claim that the earth is a sentient super-being, an ancient goddess spirit, deserving of worship and reverence.
The Gaia hypothesis, also known as Gaia theory or Gaia principle, proposes that organisms interact with their inorganicsurroundings on Earth to form a self-regulating, complex system that contributes to maintaining the conditions for life on the planet. Topics of interest include how the biosphere and the evolution of life forms affect the stability of global temperature, ocean salinity, oxygen in the atmosphere and other environmental variables that affect the habitability of Earth.
The hypothesis was formulated by the chemist James Lovelock and co-developed by the microbiologist Lynn Margulis in the 1970s.
The way of Mother Gaia is the passive, feminine, Yin way of healing. All we need to do to regain our health is to return to the bosom of Mother Nature and live in accordance with her laws. The Gaia archetype underlies all notions of the Nature Cure. Mother Nature is a healing goddess.
