Hop on Your SUP Board & Adventure This Season

Summiting picturesque mountain tops, stand-up paddleboarding in a tropical paradise with sea life all around or hiking through the rainforest with monkeys playing in the treetops — those are adventures we dream about.

Fueled by the curiosity to explore the world beyond what we know and inspired by our friends who did just that and brought back a smile that never seems to leave their faces. But how do we turn these dreams into reality?

When we start down the path of anything new, it is always a good idea to start small and work our way up the experience chain. Doing stand-up paddleboard yoga in the Caribbean is a great dream trip, but why not look at exploring the waters around our homes first. No matter where we live on this beautiful planet, there is something amazing to do close by.

Most of the times we let our dreams become the things that hold us back. They keep us at bay from stepping outside of the comfort zone, because our dreams are so far out that fear just pushes us back into the comfy place. We justify by making excuses; on my next trip I’m going there; when I save enough money I'll go and so on. But what it, what if we said I’m going to adventure in my backyard? I’m going to do SUP yoga in the pond behind my house or I’m going to take my puppy out for a ride on my SUP or get out and see the place I live in from the water?

By starting with a small adventure we allow ourselves to gracefully leave the comfort zone while keeping one foot in it. We are in a place we know, maybe doing an activity we’ve done before but this time, we let go of the fact we are in a familiar place and grab on to the adventuring aspect. This will start us on the path of exploring the unknown, our next trip may bring us an hour from our house, we may get a few friends to tag along because they saw and heard about our last selfie trip and want to have that smile that they’ve seen on our faces. And from here each adventure begins to grow, maybe we add and overnight aspect, we camp under the trees and take in the sounds of the night, maybe we jump on a plane and head a bit further. Or maybe it is something we have not even thought of yet but our last adventure opened up our minds and it was created on the drive home with our friends.

We all are connected to nature and it calls to each of us in a unique way. But once we let go of the fear of exploring the world around, we allow ourselves to seek what truly is inside of us, pushing us to follow our dreams. Let this spring be the spring where we venture into the places around us and motivate us to a healthy lifestyle filled with exploring. And why not do it on a stand-up paddleboard.
