Inspiring Adventure in Your Life

I recently led a yoga retreat in Costa Rica at The Sanctuary at Two Rivers and have renewed inspiration to bring a sense of adventure into every moment.

Where did I learn my love for adventure?

Well, that’s easy: it was my father. Through travel and adventures near and far, my father was teaching me the yoga of life, the yoga of adventure! You see, I grew up traveling all over the world with my brother and parents from the time I was an infant. I guess the fact that I love to show other people the beauty of the world through yoga retreats and active vacations shouldn’t surprise anyone since I was born in Ecuador, and my father is from Northern Italy. One could say being a citizen of the world is in my blood. Every time I travel somewhere, I come back different.

Adventure is the willingness to commit to an uncertain outcome with an open heart & open mind.

Every yoga class we take is like a really compact adventure. We don’t know exactly the poses we’re going to do or the sequence and we certainly don’t know the outcome in advance. We just have to give ourselves to it with an open heart and open mind.  It is this ability to take a leap into the unknown with mindfulness and grace on the mat that we take with us off the mat into our daily lives. The ability to think big about who you are, how you live, and what you can do in the world, whether it’s climbing volcanoes in South America, living in the rainforest in Hawaii, zip lining in Costa Rica, learning to surf in Puerto Vallarta, or trying new foods in a nearby city.

“Exploration really is the essence of the human spirit!”

There is this great story in the book How We Choose to Be Happy the interviewee responds when asked about why they are so happy: “I tried my hand at a lot of things. Some of these I liked, some I didn’t. And I have no regrets. The point is, I kept moving. Any one of these choices was far less important than the fact that I just kept choosing.”

Take a moment and ask yourself:

  • When was the last time you tried something new?
  • How often do you choose to create an adventure?
  • Do you need to know how it’s going to work out before you try something?

I believe by choosing to explore and make new adventures, like learning new yoga routines (sequences), helps us become more open to seeing the potential and possibilities for our best life ever!  Today update your Bucket List. And set the by when date for trying something new, going on an adventure and renewing your inspiration.

“The jump is so frightening
between where I am,
and where I want to be.
Because of all I may become,
I will close my eyes and leap.”
