Stone Cold Facts:  Amethyst is a popular quartz crystal that derives its name from the Greek word amethustos meaning non-drunk. It comes in a variety of gorgeous shades of purple, violet and lavender, but can also be found in a green color (Prasiolite). It is known as the sobering stone, because the ancient Greeks made cups from the purple stone, as they believed it could prevent you from becoming inebriated. Amethyst is a stone that embody the energy of the violet flame, which is potent for spiritual healing and growth, especially to help beat addictions.

What You Didn't Know: This stone is said to help develop psychic abilities, and this is a reason why it has been throughout history, along with its beauty. In addition, it historically believed to have been the ninth stone on the Breastplate of the High Priest of Israel.

How to Heal: Amethyst is so strong that even placing the stone in your home can have strong effects. You can also wear in as a pendent or as earrings. When recovering from addiction, place it in your pocket. Having a piece in the bedroom will promote restful sleep and peaceful dreaming.​ Place it on your third eye to stimulate your sixth chakra. 

Related Chakras: Amethyst primarily serves the third eye chakra (the center of intuition) as well as the crown chakra. It is also said to stimulate the the soul star chakra and the etheric chakras right up to the fourteenth chakra, if you believe that there are chakras past the usual seven.
