Yoga Pose Breakdown: Ananda Balasana - Happy Baby Pose

Sanskrit Name: Ananda Balasana
Ananda = Bliss
Bala = Child
Asana = Pose

Get Started:

  • Lie on your back
  • Bring your knees into your chest/belly area
  • Grip the outsides of your feet with your hands. Also option to grab the insides of your feet, big toes or even knees, depending on your flexibility
  • Open your knees wider than your torso and then extend them out to your armpits, allowing your soles to face the sky
  • Stack your ankles directly above your knees
  • Flex through your heels
  • Press your hands into your feet and your feet back into your hands
  • Leave your sacrum on the earth

Benefits: This pose gently stretches the inner groins and the back spine. It also calms the brain and helps to relieve stress and fatigue. 

Contradictions: For neck injuries, support your head on a thickly folded blanket. You may want to skip this pose if you are pregnant or have a knee injury.
