Namaste, yogis. 

This week, we invite you to extend your yoga practice beyond the limits of your mat and to reach out to others in need. We’ve got some great fundraiser events lined up this weekend, including a food drive in San Francisco and a benefit class to increase diversity at a preschool. Our yoga community is like family to us. Spread the love beyond the bounds of the classroom. 

San Francisco, California

Thursday, November 17
Grace Cathedral is hosting a Yoga for Change Fundraiser this weekend to benefit the Community Preschool. The preschool provides scholarships to two-thirds of its students, including full scholarships for students in at-risk neighborhoods.

Administrators at the Community Preschool seek to create a diverse community of students from varied ethnicities, religions, gender identities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. You can help them by attending the candlelight yoga class on Thursday night, which will be followed by a reception.

Friday, November 18
Join Mary Dana Abbott of Laughing Lotus for an evening of yoga set to ’60s and ’70s music! She will be leading a soul-filled flow class that’s sure to make you feel groovy.

Mary Dana’s classes are fueled by music and seamlessly incorporate the dynamic poetry of yogic philosophy, pranayama, and asana.

Head to YogaWorks Soho for a deeply restorative class aimed at exploring your own body led by Laurel Beversdorf and Caitlin Casella. You will use Yoga Tune Up therapy balls to relieve high tension regions in the body including the hips, feet, shoulders neck and jaw, followed by restorative poses which invite spaciousness and receptivity to the body and mind. 

Through self-massage and restorative postures, you will tap into your body’s blind spots and soothe tension from the source to decelerate the nervous system. This workshop is sure to reset your body and mind.

Wanderlust is hosting its signature 108 event in Australia this Saturday! Join thousands of yogis for the ultimate community experience of love and light as you find your strength and inner power!

The Wanderlust 108 consists of a 5k run (or walk, skip, saunter), 75 minutes of DJ-accompanied yoga, and a 30-minute guided meditation, as well as great local food and threads and bonus activities ranging from acroyoga to tribal marking. Join teacher Jenn Noble at Atrium Arts for a kirtan to help you to live more freely and openly. This workshop will dive into the physical, intellectual, and spiritual realms. 

Through practice we can learn to embody a state of surrender. In this workshop, you will dive into practices including postures, breathwork, kriyas, freedom movement, mantra, and kirtan. No experience is required, and light refreshments will be served afterwards.

Join Brandi Ryans and Susan Derwin at Laughing Lotus in Chelsea for a deep yin and essential oils workshop. Brandi and Susan will guide you through deep yin poses incorporating essential oils to detox the body and rejuvenate the mind. 

You will use the wall to access passive postures and inversions so as to alleviate any pain in the hips and knees and to resist putting pressure on the joints.
